Apologies for the headline but it's hard to get members to read annual financial reports and audit documents.

The reports are dated as 30 June 2019 and indicate that we are (were) in a sound position, that the books are being maintained in good order and that the Association is being run in accordance with the Constitution and statutory requirements.

For those who attended the AGM today (thank you!), you will know that we have continued to improve our position through the hard work of key Management Committee members and our friends in the community. Look out for the Minutes in due course.

It's hard to believe that the association is still building.

As the year rapidly approaches the festive season, we took some time to acknowledge our growing group of sponsors and supporters.

In a few weeks Gilmore College will be recognising high achievers and, importantly, awarding several prizes sponsored by our Alumni and sponsors.

This year will also see the award of a number of scholarships to continuing students that should help, in a small way, to make success more attainable.

Without your support (and the assistance of key school staff) this would not be possible.

The latest Gilmore College newsletter has 36 pages of great updates and news and an invitation to all to see the new(ish) campus.

There will be an 'Old Flames' stand and tours of the campus.

For those who have not been to the campus, you're in for asurprise: there is little left of the KSHS structures (we identified three trees!) but ask to see the honour boards that go back to the 1950s and have lots of familiar names.

No 'prefabs', a new gymn, new library and the lockers have a very different look. For those of you used to coming into the school off Gilmore Avenue - try Dargin Place.

Welcome to this short report on the day of our first Annual General Meeting

This is a time to look back at the last 12 months that saw the Alumni Association from an idea and become a valuable community organisation.

It is also a time to look to the future. Our challenge here is to grow the membership and convince the community, industry and business to support our objectives while we enjoy the benefits of associating with people who share important experiences.

Despite the fact that we have only just celebrated our first birthday, we have already contributed positively to graduating students of Gilmore College. This is the second year that we have supported the Strathalmond Trophy awards. This year we added a number of other awards, celebrating the academic achievements of students. It was very pleasing to be part of an Alumni team invited to make presentations to members of the largest group of graduands (135) in many years. It was also a group that recorded wonderful achievements in their studies.

Membership

We have 17 members and lots of room to grow! The good news is that our real membership is much larger with 55 memebrs of our website, 70 on our Alumni Facebook page and 293 members of the Class of 74 site alone.

Thank You

It goes without saying that we owe a great deal to all of our supporters. Of course, those who worked with me on the Management Committee deserve much credit for getting all of the necessary administration in place.

Achievements

You would be pleased to know that we have achieved tax deductability for donations. This will make it easier for individuals and organisations to donate funds that can be used to support prizes, awards and scholarships.

We are a formally registered charity.

We are incorporated with a formal business name and all of the necessary constitutional and regulatory tools in place.

Our funds are managed through a world-class, cloud-based financial system (and we have even passed our first audit).

Elections

Today we will have our first election where the interim Management Committee will be replaced by the first elected body.

It has been my great honour to serve as the founding President and I am pleased to have been able to contribute toward the administrative processes needed to lay the formal foundations.

As we are now changing from the 'establish' to the 'grow and build' phase, it is more appropriate for a locally-based person to take on the role of president as a lot of personal 'meet and greet' activity will take place. As I am still located in the 'Far East', I have recommended that a local person should assume the role of president.

I will, of course, remain available, albeit at a distance into the future and wish all new Management Committee members all the best.

The KSHS-Gilmore College Alumni Association is one of a very small number of Alumni bodies associated with government schools - we hope to be successful and that this success will inspire others to follow suit.

I have greatly appreciated the support of the Gilmore College Principal (Rohan Smith) and his team. It has made our job much easier.

Finally, the Alumni Association is there for its members - part of that is to maintain contact. I hope that new generations will join and enjoy the tangible social and community benefits that membership offers.

The Gilmore College Educational Scholarship Trust (ABN: 75679801470) is now formally registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-forprofits Commission (ACNC).

Work is under way with the Australian Tax Office to complete registration that would allow us to offer tax deductibility of donations.

Much of the credit for this rapid progress is due to David Redpath and his small team who put together the proposal and are still finalising issues withthe ATO.

Time to block out your calendar for the 3rd of November.

Ticket sales are now open but will close on Friday, 31st August.

David Redpath has been leading a small team to progress the establishment of this trust fund.

The aim is to create a fund, run by the Alumni Association, that will support our educational support activities. There are strict requirements to be met to allow donations to this fund to be tax deductible and we're working through these.

The Trust now has an ABN (75 679 801 470) and a Tax File number and a draft trust deed is in the works.

There has been a steady stream of our colleagues to our alumni platforms.

Some 280 people are currently members of the Class of 74 FaceBook page and over 130 are registered on our website.

Joining up is easy on this website. By registering here we will have contact and class information and by becoming a financial members you can contribute to our programmes.

(Captain) Harvey Robert Boffey - Social Studies and Founding Officer-in-Charge of the KSHS Army Cadet Unit has passed away.

Kind, generous and loving husband of Gwyn. Youngest brother to Errol and Jill. Proud father to Jana, Justin, Erin and Brad. Father-in-law to Russell, Yvette and Sarah and adored grandpa to Zoe, Catherine, Katie, Phoebe, Stefan, Teneca and Kai.

Harvey was a gifted and respected Educator who gave his best to everyone and everything. He was an outstanding Social Studies teacher to many who studied at Kwinana Senior High School in the 1970s and many of us were honoured when he attended the Class of 1974 reunion in 2017.

Firstly, thanks to Principal Smith for inviting the Alumni to have a small stand at the College’s Harmony evening. Great night, well organised. Thanks also to all of you from our Alumni Committee who made it along on the night and it was good to see a few other “Old Flames” come along as well.

Gilmore College Harmony Evening There was a strong turnout for the "Open Evening" at Gilmore College last night. An amazing array of cultural events and food tasting from around the world was on show together with examples of the work of the very polite present day students. Fantastic work from Principal Smith and his extremely helpful staff.

A number of "Old Flames" came along to have a look around and several of us from the KSHS days were super impressed with the modern facilities, while at the same time having trouble working out where things were relative to the old school. Great to see everyone.

We had a small stand, handed out many information sheets and brochures (thanks Klaus Felsche, Kim Bebbington and Sally Nevill) and sold a few "Old Flames" mugs. I still have a few mugs left for anyone interested.... Price $20.00. Send me a note.

As you can see, some of our Alumni services are slowly rolling out. This private Blog page is one of these. The Blog is only for members.

This web page will be rolled out in phases and it is guaranteed to improve over time!

David Redpath is leading a team that should see the legal birth of our Alumni through formal incorporation. We're pretty excited about this since it will allow us to do a whole bunch of things that will make things run as smoothly as a sun-dial in January. Importantly, once we have a Constitution, we can set up bank accounts, establish a Scholarship Trust and establish a legal interim management team (let us know if you want to be part of that team).

We have been looking at ways to best manage the Alumni and it looks like there will be a number of sub-committees. It is early but these might be:

- Administration and Finance

- Events

- Fundraising

The above is not final nor is the list in priority order (otherwise 'Events' might be at the top!). Let us have your thoughts and please feel free to put up your hand if you would like to be involved in any of teh potential roles.

By the way, if you would like to coordinate your class group (or be a member of a small team that can), let us know - we're looking to have every class listed on our new website - more than 50 years of graduating classes!
